Cowboys Coach Just Announced What He And Rest Of Cowboys Will Do To Players Who Sit During Anthem
Pre-game national anthem nixer Colin Kaepernick shouldn’t expect his next home to be with the Dallas Cowboys this season.
Not if Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has anything to say about it.
And he does.
Speaking with reporters gathered at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California, Garrett said the flag and national anthem are both “sacred” expressions of patriotism that should pull the nation together.
“There’s no question in my mind. The national anthem is sacred. Our flag is sacred. And our team has demonstrated that,” Garrett said.
Garrett’s comments are in stark contrast to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who thinks the NFL should be “more understanding” of the different political views held by players.
Kaepernick, 29, remains a free agent quarterback though he’s regularly snubbed by NFL teams that refuse to hire him because of his controversial views and conduct.
His leftist, race-based politics have included refusing to stand during pre-game performances of the national anthem. A number other black players also have remained kneeling during the national anthem, risking their careers as well.
Garrett believes that personal politics should have no place in professional football.
“We’re so fortunate to live in the country that we live in. It’s a great tradition. It’s a great song. In a lot of cases, it can become an emotional situation for all of us. You think about all the people who have fought for our country and allowed us to raise that flag as proudly as we do, to live in the greatest land in the world. It’s a special moment for all of us. We want to make sure we handle it the right way.”
Most NFL fans are in agreement: if you can’t stand for the national anthem, then you should just stay down and sit out the game.
